This position falls within the requirement for Personnel Risk Assessment to meet compliance requirements of NERC-CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection). A Criminal Record Check must be valid and/or completed prior to being appointed to this position and then on a recurring basis every seven (7) years.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Specialist is is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and administering a specialized function, including developing and continuously improving Application Management team processes, standards, templates, and technical documentation. As part of SaskPower’s management team, this role serves as a central point of contact for managing strategic and operational functions, offering expert advice and guidance aligned with departmental and corporate objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Plan, research, develop, evaluate, and implement processes, policies, and procedures utilized for the development of strategies and business initiatives that address the organization’s requirements.
- Act as a subject matter expert in a specialized function to develop, implement, coach, and assist management staff in the administration and interpretation of corporate policies; providing advice that is appropriate, practical, and consistent with relevant legislation, regulations, laws, and/or industry standards.
- Identify new business solutions and operational efficiencies, while providing recommendations that have a significant impact on SaskPower’s business operations and strategies.
- Lead and/or participate in cross-functional projects to provide functional expertise for corporate and departmental strategic planning initiatives.
- Represent the department and prepare and present material to internal and external audiences as required, including leading regular check-in meetings with business stakeholders, operational support groups, and application vendor representatives.
- Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to the area of specialization and adapt them to SaskPower’s operational environment, ensuring alignment with business stakeholder needs and regulatory requirements as applicable.
- Provide leadership and direction to project teams and/or assigned staff as required, including:
- Leading the delivery process for business enhancement requests for Application Management applications.
- Maintaining technical documentation, standards, templates, and processes for the Application Management team.
- Acting as an escalation point for Application Management issues, including business and vendor concerns.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other related equivalent AND/OR;
- Related professional designation(s) and/or certification(s) AND/OR;
- Five (5) years of related experience installing, supporting and enhancing a variety of applications on different technical platforms; including specialized enterprise platforms for security, compliance, and operational systems. Experience includes different technical platforms: 2 tier client server, web based applications, PaaS and/or SaaS applications utilizing various technologies such as MS IIS, SQLServer, Oracle, Apache, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and automation tools such as PowerShell
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines is also considered an asset.
- Team player with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships both internal and external to SaskPower
- Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
