JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineer, Supply Planning is accountable to research, develop, implement, and oversee tasks relating to electric resource adequacy and the analysis of supply requirements and available options. Supply options may include any generation technology that would present as a viable option for Saskatchewan. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for modelling supply options within SaskPower’s system model and assisting with and/or preparing technical studies and business cases. This position may prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services; ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices
• In particular: PLEXOS and/or other production cost modelling software and engineering economic evaluation techniques
• Compile and analyze data, create charts, graphs, reports, and presentations
• Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
• Lead/work as part of a team and present/defend recommendations
• Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules, and initiate corrective action as appropriate
• Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, and methodologies
• Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff
• Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required
• Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
• Professional Engineering Designation - P. Eng. or EIT
• Experience supporting electrical generation or transmission facilities by providing planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance support, commissioning, or contract management is preferred
• Experience with modelling software including PLEXOS, PROMOD, Strategist, MARS or similar is preferred
• Demonstrated competency in engineering/industry standards, as well as internal processes and procedures
• Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
• Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
• Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
• Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
• Must have a continuing record of professional development
NOTES
• Engineer-In-Training applications will be accepted and may be considered for this position
• If the successful applicant appointed to this position is an EIT, the key accountabilities as well as knowledge/skills/abilities will align with the job description and expectations of an Engineer-In-Training. The applicant will retain the title of Engineer-In-Training and remain compensated at that level until such a time that they are eligible for a Professional Engineer position either through bidding or P. Eng designation process.
