JOB SUMMARY:

 

SaskPower is currently looking for one permanent, full-time second year Power Line Technician Apprentice for our Prince Albert location (We are looking for a second year, however will also consider those in their first year ready to go to second year schooling).

The employee in this training classification will obtain an Interprovincial Journeyperson Power Line Technician Certificate upon successful completion of apprenticeship years in accordance with the required training courses and experience.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

As an Apprentice Power Lineperson, under supervision you would:

  • Learn to construct, repair and maintain the power pole lines and underground cable systems
  • Learn basic climbing skills, safety procedures, tool/material use, and bucket truck operation before moving on to more complex technical skills and challenging assignments
  • Work outside in all types of weather – rain or shine
  • Work at various heights
  • Handle large, bulky, and often heavy materials or equipment

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Must be eligible to write your level 2 Power Lineperson exam
  • Entrance requirements in accordance with the Provincial Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Standards including: 20-level Math (Math 20, Workplace and Apprenticeship 20; Foundations 20; or Pre-Calculus 20) and 10-level Science and/or grade twelve diploma (no modified classes) or GED 12
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position
  • Must be willing to relocate anywhere in the province
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence is required, however, preference will be provided to candidates with a 1A
  • Ability to cooperate and deal tactfully with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
