This position falls within the requirement for Personnel Risk Assessment to meet compliance requirements of NERC-CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection).  A Criminal Record Check must be valid and/or completed prior to being appointed to this position and then on a recurring basis every seven (7) years.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Engineer, Mechanical Systems is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.

 

As a member of the Asset Management team, this role will contribute to the development and refinement of Asset Management policies and strategies and conduct regular condition assessments on in-service mechanical equipment to assist with life cycle planning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies and practices

• Develop and implement asset inspection plans by analyzing equipment failure modes and effects.

• Create and maintain equipment condition and health scoring matrices to support asset performance monitoring.

• Apply risk management strategies to critical assets using equipment criticality rankings and asset health data.

• Lead and support end-of-life planning for generation assets by interpreting inspection data and identifying end-of-life indicators.

• Lead and support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of asset management processes.

• Collaborate with Asset Investment Planning and Generation teams to present equipment risks and propose corrective action alternatives.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive life cycle asset management plans for critical generation assets.

• Lead and support root cause analysis investigations for failures in critical generation equipment.

• Experience with pressure piping/vessel engineering, stress analysis (Caesar II/AutoPipe), specification development, and in-service maintenance—along with familiarity with Saskatchewan regulations and codes (CSA B51, NBIC, ASME BPVC, B31.1, B31.3)—will be considered an asset.
• Provide assistance and prepare project plans and monitor project costs and schedules
• Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning and operations
• Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
• Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules and initiate corrective action as appropriate
• Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives
• Develop criteria, guidelines, standards and new practices based upon codes, technologies and methodologies
• Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants and management staff
• Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required
• Other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers  of Saskatchewan OR;
• Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng)
• Years of experience planning facilities and providing design, construction, operations, commissioning, contract management and coordination of projects
• Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
• Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent facilitation, project management and decision making skills
• Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork
• Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
• Must have a continuing record of professional development

 

NOTES
•    Engineer-In-Training applications will be accepted and may be considered for this position
•    If the successful applicant appointed to this position is an EIT, the key accountabilities as well as knowledge/skills/abilities will align with the job description and expectations of an Engineer-In-Training. The applicant will retain the title of Engineer-In-Training and remain compensated at that level until such a time that they are eligible for a Professional Engineer position either through bidding or P. Eng designation process.
