This position falls within the requirement for Personnel Risk Assessment to meet compliance requirements of NERC-CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection). A Criminal Record Check must be valid and/or completed prior to being appointed to this position and then on a recurring basis every seven (7) years.
This is a safety-sensitive position, the successful candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing to comply with SaskPower’s Fit for Duty Policy.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reports to the Manager, Dam Safety and is responsible for providing engineering support for the execution of SaskPower’s Dam Safety Program.
Work includes conducting or coordinating engineering inspections; providing oversight and data interpretation for performance monitoring instrumentation; implementation of projects and initiatives to address dam safety deficiencies; conducting periodic maintenance, training and testing for emergency preparedness and response plans; conducting periodic maintenance, and training for Operations Maintenance and Surveillance Manuals; and providing technical advice to site personnel on dam safety issues.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Learn and become familiar with engineering tasks, methodologies and practices
- Provide assistance to &/or prepare project plans, plus monitor project costs and schedules for dam safety projects and initiatives
- Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning and operations
- Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases
- Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants and management staff
- Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required
- Conduct or coordinate engineering inspections on SaskPower's dams and dikes as required to assess the performance and condition of water retaining structures and associated infrastructure
- Prepare and review reports
- Provide oversight and data interpretation for dam instrumentation monitoring program
- Coordinate internal and third party resources in support of the successful execution of Dam Safety Program activities
- Provide technical support for the development, maintenance, communication, training and testing of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans for SaskPower's dams and dikes
- Manage the development and enhancement of Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance Manuals for SaskPower's dams and dykes
- Support the identification, analysis, engineering design and remediation of civil infrastructure concerns on SaskPower's dams, dikes and associated structures
- Manage and prioritize dam safety recommendations from consultants and implement projects and initiatives in accordance with prioritized recommendations
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar engineering discipline
- Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
- Must have a continuing record of professional development
- Minimum 2 years post-degree engineering work experience assisting with planning facilities, providing design, construction, operations, commissioning, contract management and project coordination in a support role
- Problem solving ability by gathering information, and interpreting known alternatives, procedures and directives. Planning and/or implementing the appropriate solution, with some latitude for considering new situations, is based on experience and past practice.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
