JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Vice President, Transmission & Distribution is accountable to the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer to provide strategic leadership, direction, and oversight of the organization’s transmission and distribution systems across the province of Saskatchewan. As a member of the Executive team, this role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost‑effective planning, operation, maintenance, and expansion of the electrical grid. The Vice President will lead the development and execution of corporate strategies, capital and operating plans, and operational initiatives to support system reliability, regulatory compliance, customer expectations, and the achievement of the organization’s long‑term vision, financial targets, and operational objectives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

• Contribute to the achievement of overall corporate objectives by delivering transmission and distribution operations and maintenance objectives as established by the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
• Provide executive oversight of the day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of the transmission and distribution systems across the province
• Ensure the safe, efficient, and effective execution of operational and maintenance activities in alignment with approved standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
• Oversee the development and implementation of operational strategies, procedures, and work practices to support system performance and service delivery
• Ensure the successful management of the department by providing direction and input into annual operating plans, workforce plans, and operating budgets
• Establish and oversee operational policies, procedures, and performance expectations related to transmission and distribution operations and maintenance
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by promoting efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency across operational and maintenance workflows and processes
• Maintain awareness of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes relevant to transmission and distribution operations and maintenance
• Promote a safe, engaged, and productive work environment by modelling corporate values and fostering a strong safety and performance culture
• Collaborate with generation, asset planning, engineering, and other internal stakeholders to support the effective delivery of operational and maintenance activities
• Other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, Interprovincial Journeyed Trade, Diploma in Technology or other related equivalent AND/OR; 
• Professional Engineer Designation (P. Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), Applied Science Technologists (AScTs), or related professional designations would be considered an asset AND/OR; 
• Twelve (12) to Fifteen (15) years of progressive senior leadership experience within transmission and/or distribution operations in a regulated utility or similarly complex asset‑intensive environment
• Extensive experience in a senior leadership role in the operational and maintenance area in an electrical utility company or similar industry
• Knowledge and understanding of current industry, economic and social trends 
• Ability to work effectively as part of a senior team, providing a supportive and innovative work environment
• Superior leadership and planning skills along with sound judgement, innovative approaches to problem solving and the capability to conceptualize and manage the impact of change in an ever-changing environment
• Energetic leader with presence, credibility and proven ability to successfully communicate, influence and build relationships across all levels within SaskPower, with customers and other key external stakeholders.
• Excellent oral, written and group communication skills including the ability to develop and present Executive and Board of Directors briefing material and highly professional presentations, to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders
• Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to manage complex and confidential issues with extreme sensitivity
• Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skills with sound decision-making abilities to enable optimal organizational performance
• Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
• Must have a continuing record of professional development
