JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Engineer, Distribution Line Assets is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, strategies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s Distribution Line Asset Management team, this position is responsible for assisting with the development of sound asset management strategies, and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, design guidelines, maintenance specifications, tender evaluations, and scoping of work packages for execution. This position will risk assess and prioritize project plans, costs, and  provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

•    Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices
•    Prioritize and manage risk across a diverse portfolio of distribution assets
•    Develop asset management strategies and life cycle asset management plans for the corporation’s distribution assets
•    Prepare detailed capital project plans and work packages
•    Monitor program and/or project costs and schedules, initiating corrective actions as appropriate
•    Develop maintenance plans, specifications, and work packages for execution
•    Prepare contract documents and contract administer the execution of capital and maintenance work on distribution assets as required.
•    Develop and implement distribution asset data quality improvement plans
•    Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
•    Communicate, consult, and provide technical assistance to Distribution Engineering, Distribution Construction, and Distribution Operations & Maintenance for construction and maintenance of distribution assets
•    Develop design criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, strategies, and corporate strategic goals and objectives
•    Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff
•    Provide direction to staff, consultants and other external parties as required
•    Other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Systems Engineering
•    Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
•    Professional Engineering Designation - P. Eng. and relevant experience in a combination of the following engineering tasks: planning facilities, providing design, construction, operations, commissioning, contract management and coordination of projects
•    Demonstrated competency in engineering/industry standards, as well as internal processes and procedures
•    Ability to mentor, coach, and support Engineers-In-Training
•    Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
•    Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
•    Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
•    Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
•    Must have a continuing record of professional development

 

NOTES
•    Engineer-In-Training applications will be accepted and may be considered for this position
•    If the successful applicant appointed to this position is an EIT, the key accountabilities as well as knowledge/skills/abilities will align with the job description and expectations of an Engineer-In-Training. The applicant will retain the title of Engineer-In-Training and remain compensated at that level until such a time that they are eligible for a Professional Engineer position either through bidding or P. Eng designation process. 


A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
