JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineer is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with, directing the completion of, and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
Specifically, the Engineer will be responsible for managing the work of internal and external designers required to execute the SaskPower Distribution capital budget. This includes the assignment and management of project design work, the management of external design consultants, and the communication of the portfolio status to management, among other duties.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices
• Provide technical assistance for design, construction, and operations
• Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
• Prepare program and project plans, monitor costs and schedules, and initiate corrective action as appropriate
• Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives
• Analyze and manipulate large data sets to identify trends and issues and communicate with stakeholders
• Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, and methodologies
• Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff
• Foster accountability with design consultants, and obtain good value for money
• Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
• Professional Engineering Designation - P. Eng. and relevant experience directing the work of technical staff, coordinatingprojects, and managing contracts
• Project Management Professional Designation – PMP – is an asset.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Power BI is an asset.
• Demonstrated competency in engineering/industry standards, as well as internal processes and procedures
• Ability to mentor, coach, and support Engineers-In-Training and Engineering Technologists
• Ability to influence from a variety of positions of power
• Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues withsensitivity and professionalism
• Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
• Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
• Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies
• Must have a continuing record of professional development
NOTES
• Engineer-In-Training applications will be accepted and may be considered for this position
• If the successful applicant appointed to this position is an EIT, the key accountabilities as well as knowledge/skills/abilities will align with the job description and expectations of an Engineer-In-Training. The applicant will retain the title of Engineer-In-Training and remain compensated at that level until such a time that they are eligible for a Professional Engineer position either through bidding or P. Eng designation process.
