This is a safety-sensitive position, the successful candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing to comply with SaskPower’s Fit for Duty Policy.
NOTES:
- After a period of familiarization and training (Duration depended on skills known when starting) the successful applicant may be On-Call Rotation. Travel to other locations and overnight stays will be required.
- During the heating season there will be scheduled weekends for boiler checks.
- Wage Includes temporary Market adjustment.
JOB SUMMARY:
The employee in this classification is responsible to fabricate, assemble, operate, troubleshoot, install, commission, maintain, operate, test and repair equipment, machinery, controls, facilities and infrastructure associated with the specific trade including Combustion Turbine and/or Heating Boilers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Develop, interpret and implement plans, drawings and specifications related to installation, modification, repair and operation of equipment
• Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions and take corrective action, as required
• Participate in the design and field modification of apparatus and equipment
• Inspect, service and operate specialized equipment and tools
• Requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of parts and supplies
• Troubleshoot, maintain, test and repair industrial, electrical, combustion turbine and control systems and other related devices
• Preparing and conducting preventive maintenance programs and keeping maintenance records related to plant operations and maintenance
• Develop commissioning and maintenance plans, procedures and testing for equipment
• Assist in creation of functional specifications and business cases that meet departmental requirements
• Develop and issue appropriate permits and perform switching procedures, as authorized
• Read, compile and maintain records and drawings associated with the position
• Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and corporate commitments
• Participate in continuous educational and professional development, as required
• Prepare specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports
• Arrange for appropriate permits, as required by the position
• Participate in research to determine efficient and effective work procedures
• May monitor and inspect construction projects and overhauls
• Supervise apprentices and other staff, as required
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area
• Other related duties, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Interprovincial Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate, or equivalent and
• Completed Combustion Turbine Operation familiarization training and
• Valid TSASK Fireman Boiler Certificate or any level of Power Engineering Certificate
• Ability to cooperate and deal tactfully with others
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
NOTES:
1. In the event there are no qualified applicants, applicants who do not hold the completed Combustion Turbine Operations familiarization training may be appointed to classification 604 (Journeyed Trade, Industrial Mechanic) and provided with the necessary training to obtain the certification and become fully qualified.
2. Employees appointed to the position with only the Interprovincial Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate, are required to successfully obtain the Combustion Turbine Operation Familiarization Training within one (1) year of being appointed into the position.
• NOTE: If posted with Fireman Boiler Certificate employees are required to obtain the Certificate within one (1) year of being appointed into the position.
3. Employees failing any prescribed examinations and applicable rewrites required to achieve fully qualified status with the allowed timeframes shall be reverted to their previous rate of pay and will be required to procure another position through the bidding procedure in the following thirty (30) day calendar day period. If such employee does not procure a position in this time, the employee will be issued a notice of lay off (notice based on current Labour Standards and requirements).
This position falls within the scope of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 2067.
