This is a safety-sensitive position, the successful candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing to comply with SaskPower’s Fit for Duty Policy.

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The employee in this classification is responsible to operate heavy mobile equipment associated with the production, construction and maintenance of SaskPower facilities and infrastructure. The employee in this classification may also perform a variety of assignments involved in all aspects of the installation, construction, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution, transmission, switching station, substation and streetlight facilities and infrastructure.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

• Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, digger/derricks, cranes, trenchers, backhoes, and bulldozers to move, load and unload cargo
• Operate, monitor, inspect and repair service vehicles, equipment and tools; including analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions while taking corrective action as required
• Move, sort and pile materials and products manually
• May Operate various equipment actively involved in the live-line maintenance and repair of overhead and underground lines
• May manually handle and install underground cables
• Document, load and transport hazardous materials, as required
• Perform and coordinate safety inspections and routine maintenance on all equipment
• Perform various manual construction, maintenance and servicing activities, utilizing hand and powered tools and equipment, including hydraulic auxiliary tools
• Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and tools, as required
• Compile and maintain maintenance records associated with the position
• May interpret and adhere to recognized industry standards, engineering and/or manufacturer’s plans, drawings, construction specifications related to the transportation, modification, repair and operation of various heavy equipment
• Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and corporate commitments
• Participate in continuous educational and professional development as required
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area
• Other related duties, as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 

• One (1) year experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy mobile equipment, or equivalent
• Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position
• Ability to provide informal training and direction to departmental and related staff as required
• Ability to cooperate and deal tactfully with others
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence, as required by the position with the ability to obtain a 1A if required by the position

This position falls within the scope of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 2067.
