The Communications Strategy Consultant is responsible for the development, maintenance and execution of SaskPower communications strategies and tactics. The successful candidate will be a skilled strategic communicator and writer with strong organizational skills. Working closely with SaskPower’s Corporate Relations and Communications team, they will help business areas across the company advance key initiatives and projects, while telling SaskPower’s story across multiple channels. The consultant will also regularly prepare and update corporate messaging and speaking notes for senior officials, including the President and CEO, on a range of complex topics for internal and external audiences. They will coordinate development of multimedia assets and campaigns and facilitate the approval of materials across the company to meet deadline requirements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• As a part of SaskPower’s management team, Consultants are accountable to provide leadership and strategic consultation and support to a broad range of multiple functional areas.
• Developing and maintaining communications strategies and tactics
• Coordinating production of multimedia assets, sometimes working with an agency of record, to support communications and engagement

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Maintain, inspect, install and repair lines, substations, apparatus and services as well as the installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground lines and cables including lead sheathed and oil-insulated cables and terminations
• Maintain, inspect, construct, install and/or repair streetlight poles, streetlight units, relays, controls, ballasts and lamps, including the repair of underground an overhead streetlight faults
• Perform live line methods necessary to complete assigned work
• Conduct inspections of transmission lines and switching facilities by regular low level air and ground patrol and determine the location, cause, nature and extent of any maintenance required
• Diagnose overhead and underground line faults by conducting appropriate inspections and tests
• Test the electrical continuity and insulation qualities of repaired cables, as required
• Perform phasing to confirm line and transformer connections, as required

• Determine routing and provide assistance for high load moves

The employee in this training classification will obtain an Interprovincial Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate upon successful completion of four apprenticeship years in accordance with the required training courses and experience.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

As a Powerline Technician Apprentice, under supervision you would:

• Learn to construct, repair and maintain power pole lines and underground cable systems
• Learn basic climbing skills, safety procedures, tool/material use, and operation of “Powered Mobile Equipment” before moving on to more complex technical skills and challenging assignments
• Work outside in all types of weather – rain or shine
• Work at various heights
• Handle large, bulky, and often heavy materials or equipment

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Entrance requirements in accordance with the Provincial Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Standards
• All Candidates MUST refer to and be eligible to meet the Saskatchewan equivalent Entrance Requirements for Apprenticeship Training as per the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission
